Meiji Shrine Kobudo Shinkokai Hono Embu

November 3, 1997

Each year on November 3 (Culture Day in Japan, an official holiday), the Nihon Kobudo Shinkokai (Society for the Promotion of Japanese Classical Martial Arts) sponsors a demonstration of the classical martial arts at Meiji Shrine in Tokyo, Japan. This is not a demonstration meant to entertain an audience; rather it is a hono embu, a demonstration to the spirit of a shrine, in this case the Meiji Emperor who is enshrined (naturally enough) at Meiji Shrine.

1997 was our "farewell" demonstration--the last time we performed in public as residents of Japan.
